All girls trip!

Hi loves!

So back in June, a couple girl friends and I went to Chicago for the weekend (in between some trainings we had in the city). We had such a blast and it was a great way to send off two of my good friends who have since moved away.

We got in Friday evening and headed to Old Town for some fun! We started off at a super cool Irish bar called Lady Gregory’s. Their whiskey selection was great and if you are fan of pub style food – highly recommend you go! The Friday night that we went, they had a DJ who was playing all of the 90’s and early 2000’s classics. It was awesome! Definitely a fun place on a Friday night, with lots of people.

After hitting up the bar, we walked over to the Second City and saw a great comedy show! I love to laugh and man did the show provide laughs the whole time. I would definitely recommend seeing a show if you are in the area and love a good laugh!

By this point in the evening, or should I say, early Saturday morning, we decided to head back to the hotel and catch up on some much needed rest.

Saturday, I got up to work out and then brought back the girls some Cold Brews {who doesn’t love Starbucks first thing in the morning, I know I do}. We decided to do a brunch and ended up at Bridge House Tavern on the river. The view was amazing and so was the weather! We started off the morning with Bloody Mary’s and Mimosa’s and I think all of us girls order the Veggie Hash, which was phenomenal!

Next, we decided to hit up the brewery’s in Chicago. All of us are fans Goose Island Brewery and Revolution Brewery, so we made sure those were on the list to go to. We also ended up at Lagunitas Brewery, which was a little too much of an IPA type beer for my taste, but we had so much fun, it didn’t even matter {and the nacho’s there were amazing in our alcohol induced state}.

Goose Island was great and super laid back. We had fun drinking our flights and also brought a deck of cards along to play some card games. I am huge fan of Goose Island beer {which they recently started selling 312 in Atlanta – YAY} and would say that I enjoyed the Summer Ale that I tried in the flight. Goose Island was such a great start to our brewery tour!

Next, we hit up Revolution Brewery. I had been to their Brewpub in the past, when I had been in Chicago for training, but this was the first time I had been to the actual brewery. It was awesome. I absolutely loved the American Flag on the wall and had to capture it with the beer in front. I tried several different kinds of beer here and enjoyed every single one, it’s really hard to pick a favorite!

Finally, we hit up Lagunitas. By this point in the day, we had a lot of beer, but we still wanted to check it out! It is definitely an IPA heavy beer, so I was not a huge fan, but the atmosphere was great and they had food to satisfy our hunger at the point in the day.

Due to the amount of day drinking we participated in, we cut it out early Saturday night and headed to bed at reasonable time.

Sunday was such a great day – we rented bikes by Navy Pier and rode several miles along Lake Michigan. I loved getting to ride a bike by the lake and enjoy some time outside. Having an outdoor activity so easily accessible is one reason that I love Chicago. It is one of my favorite places to visit {and if it didn’t snow, I may even have considered moving there}.

Around lunch time, we stopped near Lincoln Park and had lunch at Gaslight Bar & Grille. They have different specials every day and on Sunday had a Mimosa bar, which was totally awesome! We bought a bottle of champagne and then got to mix it with whichever juice we decided {I picked pineapple, while the girls picked grapefruit}. They also had lots of add-ins like fruit and candies! The food was good and we walked out of there having enjoyed the time we spent there. We even hit it up later in the week for some Moscow Mules {well, I had a Mexican Mule that was the bomb}.

Later that evening, we all got dressed up {and I did everyone’s hair – curls for days} and went to John Hancock Signature Lounge for a drink and some great views of the city. We had reservations at Mercadito where we all had margaritas, shared guacamole, queso fundido and several different types of tacos. It was a great way to end our weekend!

All-in-all, it was such a great weekend and I was so glad to spend quality time with three girl friends who will always mean the world to me! Hope you enjoyed this post. If you try any of the suggestions I made above, let me know what you thought!

Straight Outta Oz

In my 30 Before 30 post I mentioned that one of the things I wanted to do before 30 was see more live shows, concerts and plays! Last weekend, I had the pleasure of seeing Todrick Hall in Straight Outta Oz – which he wrote about his journey to become the performer he is today!

As I mentioned in my NYC post, I absolutely adore Todrick! I have been a huge fan of his from his YouTube days and could not be more excited to watch him blossom into the entertainer he is today! He was amazing as Lola in Kinky Boots, but to watch his passion on stage for something he wrote about his life was truly mind-blowing. Todrick is so talented and so full of life!

If you have not seen the show, check out his website for shows and tickets! You will not be disappointed!

Run the River 10K

Guys! I ran my SECOND 10K of the year last week & guess what?! I set a PR {person record for non-runner followers}. I ran the 10K in 1 hour and 5 mins (a full 10 minutes faster than the 10K I ran in March). That is 6.2 miles in 65 minutes! I am sooo dang proud of myself. I was on cloud nine for the rest of the day!

Typically when I run with charity miles, I run for Team Red, White and Blue or the Chron’s and Colitis Foundation of America, but since Saturday was Earth Day, I ran for the National Park Foundation. My run earned $1.60 to the National Park Foundation. I know that this does not seem like a lot, but over time this adds up! I mean, this month alone, I have logged 42.5 miles and have a 5K today! That is $10.63 to different charities thanks to the charity miles app! Seriously, if you are not using this app – go and get it! It is so easy to log miles running, walking or even biking!

I am so super proud of myself and looking forward to running the Wicked Wine Run tonight! Be on the lookout for a post about that run as well.

Also, I have a 10 mile run  (Unmasked 10 Mile Run for your Life) coming up for @hogwartsrunningclub (check them out here) to benefit To Write Love on Her Arms, which is a great organization that is working to end the stigma associated with mental illness, such as depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide. If you ever feel like you are alone in the world, PLEASE reach out to them. Remember, you are enough. YOU MATTER! I am going to run this for myself, as I have struggled with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. Running has helped me cope with these, but sometimes we could all use a helping hand and I am grateful this organization exists to help us out! And I am even more proud to be a part of HRC, helping to raise awareness for mental illnesses and helping to unmask the stigma related to them.

My goal is one race a month for the rest of the year to help me stay on track to run my half-marathon in November!

Hair Salon Services

IMG_3259.JPGHey guys!! Sorry I have been MIA! April has been a busy month for me and I will have several posts over the next couple of days. One topic that I wanted to discuss was Hair Salon Services. I went to Jacksonville a couple of weeks ago and got my hair done by my amazing hairstylist and we got to talking about what services you can do at home and what you should ALWAYS go to a salon for, so I thought I would talk about a few!

  1. Hair coloring – I cannot stress how important it is to go to a salon when getting any type of coloring done to your hair. Box hair coloring can be so unpredictable, and let’s face it, we aren’t in high school anymore (and if you are – STAY AWAY FROM THE BOXED HAIR DYE). Seriously, so much can go wrong when you try to dye your hair on your own. Depending on the tones of your natural hair will have the color react in different ways. This can mean that the super blonde you want will turn orange in your hair. Take it from me (a girl who has tried and failed the whole box coloring thing), go to professional the first time. You will save soooo much money!
  2. Hair cutting – First of all, do you see the fancy shears that hair stylist have?? Yeah, they are super sharp and super accurate. Your scissors at home will not cut hair the same way. So please don’t try to cut your bangs at home. I have seen soooo many terrible videos where someone tries to cut their hair and ends up destroying it! Do yourself (and everyone else) a favor and go to see a professional the first time. You don’t want to be remembered by those ugly short bangs across your forehead, do you?
  3. Hair updos – Are you attending an event and would like to do a nice updo/hairstyle? Well there are so many youtube videos & blogs with step-by-step tutorials and how to’s, that this is definitely something you can do on your own! Check out a few of mine by clicking on the “Hair” page across the top! I will suggest that if you want something super complicated, talk to your hairstylist first to see if it is something you can do on your own!

Hope you enjoyed reading this post about a few different services I think you can do at home versus going to a salon. What hair service do you do at home? Comment below!

How To: Outdoor Run Hairstyle

Hi loves!

Happy Saturday!! Today is a super easy hairstyle for when I run outside!

First, I put my hair in a ponytail low enough to put a hat on. Next, I put in my hat and get it comfortable. I hate when my hair pulls or feels awkward in my hat, so I adjust the ponytail until it feels right. Finally, I braid my pony tail. I like braiding the ponytail so that it is all put together. When I wear my in a regular ponytail it swings a lot and pieces get stuck to my arms or back. The braid minimizes this effect.

Here is a picture of the look before I went for my run! And after 5 miles it was still neatly put together!

Hope you have a fabulous Saturday! If you try this hairstyle, make sure to Instagram #gapeachhairaffair so I can check it out!

It’s My Birthday!

Goodness gracious, it’s my 28th birthday! That means 2 years to the big 3-0! I have decided to mark this monumental occasion with very own “30 before 30” bucket list. I was thinking yesterday about how I couldn’t believe I was turning 28 and I felt like there were so many things I wanted to do before I turned 30. I started reading some lists from some blogs I found online and went from there. The following are a list of things that I want to do in the next 2 years before I hit my next big birthday!

  1. Visit Australia and New Zealand – I am dying to go to Australia and New Zealand, so this is number 1 on my list of things to do before I am thirty!
  2. Perform 30 acts of kindness – over the next 2 years, I will find ways to perform 30 acts of kindness and hopefully someone will pay it forward
  3. Be in 2 states at once – I have always wanted to do this, so why not now
  4. See Niagara Falls – Although I have been to NYC on many occasions, I have never made it this far north!
  5. Take a road trip down the west coast of the United States – I want to Start in Seattle, Washington and road trip down to San Diego, California! Hitting all the big stops in between (Portland, Napa Valley, San Francisco, LA, and so many more)!
  6. Visit Canada – I have heard that Toronto is fun city and I would love to visit!
  7. Take a spontaneous trip to somewhere I have never been – I had so much fun when I spontaneously decided to go to Miami a couple of weeks ago. Next time, I want to go somewhere I have never been
  8. Spend a weekend at the beach cut off from the world – Yes, turn off the phone & unplug… just a weekend of relaxation and good reading
  9. Put my feet in the Pacific Ocean – this kind of goes hand in hand with number 5!
  10. Go on an all-girls trip – I love taking trips with my girlfriends, so I want to do one BIG trip before the big 3-0!
  11. Run/walk a marathon – I am signed up to run a half-marathon this year and would love to run/walk a marathon before I am 30!
  12. Get in the best shape of my life & stay that way – As I work towards my healthy living goals, I want to get in the best shape of my life!
  13. Learn something new
  14. See more live music & concert & plays – this list goes on & on, but I do want to see more live entertainment over the next couple of years
  15. Read more books (broaden my variety) – I love reading, but I definitely need to widen the genres of books I read
  16. Keep up with this blog – I have really enjoyed this blog and want to keep up with!
  17. Get a camera and take up photography again
  18. Teach someone something new – not only do I love learning new things, but I also love teaching someone new things and my job allows me to do this on a daily basis.
  19. Find something I am passionate about and pursue it
  20. Do something that scares me
  21. Visit Ireland – I am dying to go to Ireland & drink a beer in an Irish pub!
  22. Attend my 10 year high school reunion and catch up with people I haven’t seen in years!
  23. Find the perfect “little black dress” – unfortunately, I do not have one, but definitely something I want to find before turning 30!
  24. Take a hot air balloon ride
  25. Go to Harry Potter World – I have been to the original side of Harry Potter World, but I have not been the newest side of Harry Potter World – this is something I definitely want to do before I turn 30!
  26. Try crossfit, just once!
  27. Take up dance (again) – I used to dance and cheer when I was younger and would love to take it up again, mostly as a fun way to help with number 12!
  28. Save money (outside of my 401k) – I have a pretty good 401k set up by giving myself 10% every pay check, but now I want to save up money outside of that. It won’t be easy with car payments and student loans, but a little bit every month helps!
  29. Take a cooking class & make it stick – I am not the best cook and while I can follow recipes pretty easily, I just want to take a class to learn a few tips & tricks
  30. Spend my 30th birthday in Las Vegas!

PHEWW – so that list was a lot harder to make than I thought it would be, but man am I excited to tackle this list! I know I have a lot of “travel” items, but I would rather make memories by traveling the world than have money in my bank account! I will keep y’all updated over the next two years and add links to the posts I create for each item I cross off my list!
